One Health Approaches for Climate-Sensitive Infectious Diseases
As part of the IDAlert project, Erasmus Medical Centre, is organising an International Summer School 2024 on One health approaches to study climate sensitive infectious diseases.
Date and Place: August 12 – 16, 2024 (PDPC/Erasmus Medical Centre; Rotterdam, The Netherlands)
Are you a passionate scientist eager to tackle the complex challenges of infectious diseases in a changing world?
Join us in Rotterdam this summer and deepen your understanding of the One Health principles and their role in tackling global health problems.
Content of the Summer School
An interdisciplinary summer school aims to equip early-career and mid-career scientists (public health, veterinary medicine, ecology, infectious diseases) with the main concepts and methods of multidisciplinary system-thinking (One Health) approaches in the research of infectious diseases in a climate change context. The focus will be on the human-animal interface, including vector-borne, zoonotic diseases, and their connection with climate change and associated anthropogenic changes. We will specifically discuss challenges and the research that takes place in Rotterdam and surroundings, an internationally connected urban delta area, vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
What will you learn?
The Summer school will combine the theory of zoonotic diseases and their connection with climate change, with interesting lectures on study designs, data collection (including citizen science) and data modelling. Next to this, we will organise several field trips, hands-on workshops, collaborative project work, group activities, and social evenings throughout the week.
Target Audience
Young researchers, e.g., MSc. and PhD candidates as well as postdoctoral scientists, from a broad range of disciplines who have a strong motivation to apply One Health approaches in their field of research or work. 30 students will be selected.
Registration fee
We ask for a registration fee of €100. Payment should be made once you have been selected to attend the summer course. The €100 fee covers the course material, practical fieldwork activities material, lunch, summer school social dinner and refreshments. Participants are responsible for arranging and financing their own travel and accommodation.
