We’re proud to announce that two of our experts, Shouro Dasgupta and Jan Semenza, have been selected to join an international consortium of 78 specialists convened by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This initiative focuses on refining and developing indicators that measure progress toward the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA), a critical component in the global response to climate change.
Key Objectives of the initiative
The collaborative effort will involve a comprehensive review of over 5,000 indicators submitted by 50 Parties and observer organizations. The team will not only refine existing indicators but also create new ones to address identified gaps. This process aims to ensure that the indicators are robust and effective in tracking progress across various themes relevant to climate adaptation.
Shouro Dasgupta will contribute in particular in the areas of food and agriculture production and supply, as well as health services, morbidity, and mortality. His work will encompass two significant themes:
-
9b: Food and Agriculture Production and Supply
-
9c: Health, Health Services Morbidity, and Mortality
The initiative spans seven themes and four dimensional targets outlined in the GGA Decision 2/CMA.5, emphasizing the importance of coordinated efforts across different areas of focus. Dasgupta highlighted the need to examine cross-cutting indicators, enhancing the overall effectiveness of the GGA.
Collaboration with Global Experts
Dasgupta and Semenza will work alongside some of the most esteemed experts in the fields of food systems, health, and climate adaptation. Their participation underscores IDAlert’s commitment to addressing critical issues at the intersection of environmental sustainability, health, and social equity.
